Stimulating Spiritual Hunger – 1

Life in Asia rarely resembled this picture. It was often tedious and challenging. Christian resources were few and my time in the Word was often very dry. I knew that connection to the Vine was the lifeline to my spiritual growth, but I often moaned my passivity and disinterest toward a daily devotion.

Ring a bell?

Just how do you re-stimulate a waning spiritual hunger?

Over the next several posts, I’m going to share with you some of the simple methods I stumbled across over the years. All of these primarily focus on His Word rather than what someone else says about His Word. Most cost very little (if any) money. All will cost you time.

For these to help rekindle a spiritual fire within you, there are a few prerequisites.

First, take 1 John 5:12 literally. “He who has the Son, has the Life.” You must believe that the very Life that was within the Son of God is now within you personally. This is not a life of trying-really-hard-to-model-your-life-after-His. Because there is a big difference in trying to reform an old life and accessing a new one. “If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Your life has already been crucified with Christ (Romans 6:6). When He died, you died. You aren’t trying to achieve your own crucifixion. (Think about it. It’s impossible! You might could get the nails in your feet and maybe miraculously in one wrist, but it is physically impossible to complete your own crucifixion.) Jesus was crucified for the both of you 2000 years ago. You “have been crucified (past tense) with Christ, and it is no longer (you) who live, but Christ (now) lives in (you)” (Galatians 2:20).

Secondly, this Life within you is called the Word of God (Revelation 19:13). He is living, energetic (Hebrews 4:12), powerful, overcoming (Acts 19:20), multiplying (Acts 12:24) and spreading rapidly throughout your spirit and soul (2 Thessalonians 3:1). He incessantly produces sprouts, tendrils, and buds, all for the purpose of bearing spiritual fruit (Colossians 1:6).

Now, something within you desires to know this Life better or you wouldn’t be reading a post on stimulating spiritual hunger. This “something” is the actual, dynamic Life of Christ within you. All of the moments that you have spent studying, reading, and seeking the Word has brought you to this point. His Word has been implanted within you (James 1:22).

You already have more of the Word within you than you realize.

So lastly, it’s time to believe that His Word within you is powerful enough to accomplish His purpose and achieve His intention (Isaiah 55:11). He has been speaking to you all along. It’s time to believe and “go with” His Voice.

Are you ready?
