I love 2 Corinthians 3:18.
It’s perfect for taking a peek into the heavenlies.
Let’s dissect the first part of this verse. The Greek words give us so much more understanding into our true spiritual vision.
“But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord…” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
“We” – (Greek: hemeis) – used as an emphatic
“all” – (Greek: pas) – each, every, any, all, the whole, everyone, everything
“unveiled” – (Greek verb: anakalypto) – to unveil or uncover by drawing back a veil; from combining two root words “up, off” + “to cover”; Verb written in the perfect tense meaning that it is completed and never has to be repeated. Written in the passive voice meaning that the subject (us, in this instance) has it done to them (we aren’t the ones that have to pull the veil off our own eyes!).
“face” – (Greek noun: prosopon) – the face as the organ of sight and by its various movements, the index of the inward thoughts and feelings
“beholding as in a mirror” – (Greek verb: katoptrizo) – seeing reflected, as in a mirror; from combining two root words meaning “down” + “to gaze with wide open eyes at something remarkable”.
“glory” – (Greek noun: doxa) – view of splendor, brightness, majesty, perfect excellency
“Lord” – (Greek noun: kyrios) – he to whom a person belongs, about which he has the power of deciding; master
Here is my truth meditation:
Now every single one of us who have the life of Christ within us, have the option to see something different when we see our reflection. God has once and for all pulled back the covering from our eyes and we no longer have to gaze at only what we can see with our physical eyes.
He has revealed Himself. All we have to do is believe He is living within.
Even when we look in the mirror, it’s not our face that we see. No, He is transforming us into His very image.
Look again. We pause to allow our eyes to adjust to the bright light and are riveted onto His shekinah glory. Our eyes fixate on Him and we are shocked to find that in the bright splendor of His pupils, we see our own reflection.
With wide-open eyes, we stare at this one remarkable fact: the Living God of majesty lives within. We belong to Him and He to us. His glory bursts into fiery brilliance as we believe the existence of His Presence within.
As I stare, I know that I can trust Him. So, I renew the sacrifice of my life to Him. He can decide my future. He can handle my details. He not only wants to, He is quite able of doing so.
I glimpse Him and I want more. Yes, I’m hungry for more.
Continue to uncover Your glory to me, O Father. Even so, Lord Jesus, come.
