dynamit

“Dynamis.”

What does that remind you of?

Sounds kinda like dynamite, huh?

And in fact, dynamis is the Greek word for power. I love verses that talk about power, don’t you? Especially when I am the recipient of it.

“Strengthened with all dynamis” (Colossians 1:11)…yeah, I like it. Just think what all I could do with that power:

Reveal a hidden truth in a difficult situation

Touch someone with immediate healing

Part traffic, so I wouldn’t have to sit bumper to bumper…

When I see the brilliance of His apparent and forceful energy, I immediately think, “Wow! That could be mine. I too want to ooze with power.”

But, look at the rest of that verse:

“Strengthened with all power …for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience…”

Paul’s prayer here in the first chapter of Colossians is simply asking the Lord to give him the strength to keep going. The strength He gives most freely is the power to wait.

The power we need most is the dynamis to endure.

Staying strong in the fog of the unknown

Responding patiently amid the unfairness of others

Keeping steadfast despite crippling situations…

Those are the instances for which we most need His power.

What are you trying hardest today to get out of? What are you most impatient to have ended? Could it be that the greatest evidence of power in your life lies un-utilized in the form of steadfastness and patience?

“May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ” (2 Thessalonians 3:5)
