Prayer for Our Country

O Father,

Thank You for revealing Yourself to us as God Almighty (Genesis 17:1). You are more powerful than any other being ever was or will be (Revelation 11:17). This is good news, especially when I feel overwhelmed.

As we come to this election, we know the evil one seeks to destroy Your truth (1 Peter 5:8). Often, he uses individuals or groups to do his bidding, yet we recognize that flesh and blood aren’t to blame. This is a spiritual war. Our wrestlings are with spiritual opponents of darkness, not against humankind (Ephesians 6:12). May we war accordingly. Thank You for giving us weapons suited explicitly for this kind of warfare (2 Corinthians 10:3).

As I come before You in prayer, I’m aware that this situation is far more extensive than my ability to pray. Yet, with the boldness that You have given me, I enter into the fray (Hebrews 10:19). Destroy the speculations and every lofty thing refusing to know You. As You bring to mind specifics, give me the clarity to reach out in spirit, grab hold of these thoughts, and lay them at Your feet (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). May that include my own thoughts of worry.

Grant wisdom Lord, so that in Your strength, I can scale the walls and bring down the oppressive strongholds (Proverbs 21:22). You desire unity among Your people, yet a divisive spirit remains prevalent. Put to shame this lofty stronghold by the power of Your Word. Shatter it to pieces (Jeremiah 48:1). I pray that the election would result in Your knowledge spilling over into my city, state, country, and world (Isaiah 11:9).

Right now, the fortifications of fraud and deceit seem unassailable. Yet, I bring them to You, asking that You lay them low (Isaiah 26:5). I pray that the evil one’s plans for our country will be demolished (Isaiah 25:12). May Your Power fight for Your people as we silently await You (Isaiah 25:9; Exodus 14:14). In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
