\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nKnow what the word is?<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nNomos<\/em> or \u201cthe Law\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nUsing this definition, let\u2019s look at some verses and the ramifications of what this means. I\u2019m going to insert our new description in parentheses every time we come to the word \u201cthe Law\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cYou were made to die to (trying to please God)<\/strong> through the body of Christ…that you might bear fruit for God.\u201d<\/em> (Romans 7:4)<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cNow we have been released<\/strong> from (doing stuff just to get God\u2019s approval).\u201d<\/em> (Romans 7:6)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cWhat (trying to please God) couldn\u2019t do…God did by sending His own Son\u2026.in order that the requirement<\/strong> of (trying to please God) might be fulfilled<\/strong> in us.\u201d<\/em> (Romans 8:3-4)<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cFor Christ is the end of (efforts to please God)<\/strong> … for everyone<\/strong> who believes.\u201d<\/em> (Romans 10:4)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cLove<\/strong> therefore is the fulfillment<\/strong> of (my effort to please God).\u201d<\/em> (Romans 13:10)<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cThe sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is (me trying to do stuff to gain God\u2019s approval)<\/strong>.\u201d<\/em> (1 Corinthians 15:56)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cA man is not justified<\/strong> by the works of (what he thinks he might could do to please God), but through faith<\/span> in Christ Jesus.\u201d<\/em> (Galatians 2:16)<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cIf righteousness comes through (what I can do to get God\u2019s approval), then Christ died needlessly<\/strong>.\u201d<\/em> (Galatians 2:21)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cDid you receive the Spirit by (doing stuff to please God) or by hearing with faith?\u201d<\/em> (Galatians 3:2)<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201c(Trying to do stuff on my own to please God) is not<\/span> of faith.\u201d<\/em> (Galatians 3:12) \u201cAnd whatever is not from faith is sin<\/strong>.\u201d<\/em> (Romans 14:23)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nI\u2019m hearing a theme from God here…how about you?<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nMe trying to please God doesn\u2019t work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nThere is a fine line between:<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
\n- hearing God speak and obeying what He says<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nAnd<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n- not waiting to hear from Him, but just making up a rule that I think He will like.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nFor instance, having a daily quiet time every morning is my habit. I come making myself available to God to speak to me through prayer and His Word.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nBut when I take away the willing attitude and replace it with a regimen of \u201cspirituality\u201d that has to look the same way every day (i.e. at the same time, using the same amount of time, hearing the same depth of Word etc…) – then I have turned a willing Spirit-walk into \u201cthe Law”. And that doesn\u2019t please Him<\/strong> (Romans 8:8).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nIs it any wonder why our rule-oriented quiet times so seldom commune with Him?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nWhat fine line do you often cross between \u201cthe Law of the Spirit\u201d and \u201cthe law of sin and death\u201d (Romans 8:2)?
