When You Can’t See

Holy Father,

Thank You for being My Lamp in the darkness. As I look into my past, I notice Your guiding Hand has always been there, shining Light into every one of my dark situations (2 Samuel 22:29). Sometimes, my darkness is my own unwillingness to open my eyes to Your truth. But You are a God Who always seeks to enlighten my eyes to see all You provide (Ephesians 1:18).

Your Light is an inner one, leading me out of the inky recesses into the extraordinary brilliance of Your Kingdom (Psalm 119:18). With You as my Guide, I can move forward knowing You will be my enduring Refuge, my turnout if the storm becomes too fierce (Psalm 119:105; 2 Samuel 22:31). No matter what the coming experience holds, I carry within my frail heart the brilliant power of God (2 Corinthians 4:7).

The future looks a little scary, Father. If I let my emotions take over, I’ll slip and slide through this situation, falling and failing at every turn. But when I remember that I can run to You, I am comforted knowing that You are the best hiding place anyway (2 Samuel 22:33).

I look down to discover that You have given me hinds’ feet — perfect for stepping through precarious situations and scaling the high things of the Kingdom (2 Samuel 22:34). I’m made for this! Keep me moving towards glory, not merely towards being distracted with entertainment or knowledge (2 Corinthians 3:18; 2 Timothy 3:7).

Teach me to pray. Train my spiritual hands to use Your offensive weapons deftly, both for offensive as well as defensive battles in the heavenlies (2 Samuel 22:35). Reveal Your Heart to me, so that my prayers are entry points of Light into my circle of influence. Shield me daily by Your faithful salvation (2 Samuel 22:36).

As You know, I’m quite a mess, Lord. Deliver me from the contentions and complaints of the enemy (2 Samuel 22:44). Enlarge my steps underneath me, so my feet won’t slip into selfishness, but walk firmly in Your Spirit (2 Samuel 22:37; Galatians 5:16). Gird me with strength for the war room, while You think Your thoughts through me (2 Samuel 22:40; 2 Corinthians 10:5).

You are alive and active, O Lord (Hebrews 4:12). Remind me to bless Your Name as my Strength and exalt You as the Rock of my salvation (2 Samuel 22:47). Draw me after You so that we may run forward together (Song of Solomon 1:4). In Jesus Name, Amen
