The Promise of the Prism

I have a fascination with stained glass

Every morning, when the sun’s light beams just right through the colored glass in my dining room, the opposite wall is washed with orange, green and yellow tints.

As I watch the light color my own pale skin today, I remain in awe at the power of Light

We have been asking the Father to open both our eyes as well as those around us to see Truth. In essence, when we do so, we are opening the drapes on the window of a soul, so that His heavenly Light can wash a heart with His brilliant color.

Just as pulling back my drapes at 3:00 a.m won’t showcase the stained glass, our initial prayers may need His timing to activate a heart. Waiting in prayer is often needed for His Light.

“My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning.” (Psalm 130:6)

Now, here comes the really amazing part:

When He allows Himself to be seen,

it means that He is also transforming

the watchman into His image.

Just as light streams through the stained glass to wash the wall with morning color, He not only reveals Himself to those who wait for Him, but also transfigures our soul into His image

When we see Him, we become like Him (1 John 3:2).

We can’t force this to happen because of what we do. Light washes us because of where we stand. As we quieten our thoughts and emotions before Him, He can’t help but spill Himself over and into us (Luke 1:78).

We need His transforming Light. His energizing brilliance is missing from our mundane religious experience. Let’s wait before Him – first to enlighten us and then to enlighten those around us.

May your faith be strengthened to know that His dawning is a sure thing. The sun’s daily rising is our promise.

“So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain watering the earth.” (Hosea 6:3)

O Holy Father, quieten my soul before You that I may know the transforming power of Your Light. Open my eyes to see the Truth of Your nearness. Open my heart to breathe constant prayer for my fellowman as well as my country – that they too might be transformed by the intense brightness of Your Life. You alone are the Hope of our families, yes, even our peoples. Use my prayers as the stained glass of purity that reflects Your luminosity to others around me. In the glow of Your Son I stand, Amen.”
