Prayer for the Oppressed

Holy Father,

As I bring (Name) before You today, I am aware there is evil that wants to kill, steal and destroy their family (John 10:10). This is always the mode of the devil. Sometimes he looks like a roaring lion (1 Peter 5:8), sometimes like an angel (2 Corinthians 11:14), but his essence never changes. He is always evil and anti-God. Thank You for being stronger than he is (1 John 4:4; Luke 11:22).

As I pray for this dear individual, I claim the work of Christ into their abuse. Although the evil one seeks to curse their lives, You have paid the fee of affliction by taking this loathing upon Yourself. You became the curse for them (Galatians 3:13)! No longer are they bound by the curses spoken over them by man.

Wherever Your Spirit is, there is great freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17), so I ask that You fill them up with Yourself. No matter where they are spiritually, I ask that Your light would come like a powerful lightening bolt through their darkness. Thank You for the freedom that You have bought Christ, I stand in rejection against any and all effects of fear or deceit.

(If this individual is already a Christian:) You have already given them the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). You have already rendered the devil powerless by conquering both fear and death (Hebrews 2:14-15). You have promised to rescue them from temptation…even the temptation to doubt and fear (2 Peter 2:9). You have promised to deliver them from every evil deed and to bring them safely into Your Kingdom (2 Timothy 4:18). You have promised to be their Stronghold that they can run into (Psalm 94:22). You have promised that You will camp around Your house so that no oppressor will pass over them anymore (Zechariah 9:8). I pray that right now, even if they are too afraid to move, You would take seize their hands and yank them into safety (Genesis 19:16).

(If the individual is not yet a Christian:) You came to seek and to save those who are lost (Luke 19:10). No matter what they have done or what mistakes they have made, You died for (Name) while they were yet sinners (Romans 5:8). I believe that You do not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). So in accordance to what You already want to happen, I am claiming this life for Your Kingdom. You said that if I pray according to Your will, You hear, and if You hear, we are granted the requests that we have asked (1 John 5:14-15). Set up spiritual detonation devices in their pride, thoughts, and environment to destroy anything in their lives built up against knowing You (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Grant me the perseverance to pray this through, no matter what kind of obstacle satan throws my way (Daniel 10:12-13). Teach me how to pray without loosing heart (Luke 18:1).

I speak these things aloud in Your Presence because that’s the example You have given to us. The Word that goes out of Your mouth doesn’t return empty, but accomplishes what You desire (Isaiah 55:11). In order for me to use the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God), I have to take it out of the sheath (Ephesians 6:17). And so, I do this not only for this situation, but for others in this family who are burdened under discouragement and fear. Break the cycle, Lord. Stop the effects of the evil one over other family members. Satan is a defeated foe. Come and crush him underneath our feet as we agree with Your Word (Romans 16:20). In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
