God of all Peace, Comfort, and Encouragement,
O how we need You. Our world seems upside down in its understanding of truth. As long as we listen to man’s report, the swirl of fear clouds our eyes, and we stumble from one anxious thought to another. We desperately need Divine Intervention to break this cycle for only a fresh outpouring of Your reviving Spirit will clear the fog.
In Joel 2:28, You promised to pour out Your Spirit on all mankind. Your flood of Life was not only fulfilled through the first-century church, but You’ve sent revival in nearly every century since. In the Great Awakening of the American colonies, the Welsh revival of 1905, and the revival of China today, individuals thirsty for You asked You to “pour out water on the thirsty” (Isaiah 44:3). Thirst is always the prerequisite for the deluge of Your power.
Thank You for the unsettling that this worldwide panic has caused. The church needed something to shake us from our comfortable religion and place us before our Ever-Stable God (Hebrews 12:27-28). Our anxiety regarding the future is stirring thirst within us. May our dehydration for truth drives us toward a prayer of humility. When we recognize our utter dependence upon You, we can’t help but pray it through. What a blessing!
Increase this thirst, Lord. The larger our emptiness, the greater Your filling. May our hearts be like the empty containers at the wedding in Cana — just waiting to be abundantly filled and transformed (John 2:6-10). Jesus, You are the Living Water, awaiting the thirsty one to come and drink (Revelation 22:17). Stir thirst within Your church, like a parched land thirsts for rain (Psalm 143:6 NLT). Stir me individually to desire You passionately, so that You may come to me like the spring rain that waters the earth (Hosea 6:3).
Our world is thirsty, Father. “The affiliated and needy are seeking water, but there is none. Their tongue is parched with thirst” (Isaiah 44:17a). This global crisis has revealed our desperate need. But, Your Heart can’t leave Your prodigal people like this: “I, the Lord, will answer them Myself, as the God of Israel I will not forsake them” (Isaiah 41:17b). You already have an abundance of water waiting to satisfy all spiritual desires (John 4:14).
Your purpose is to take the wilderness lives of pornography, addiction, abuse, and neglect, and transform them into a flowing pool of living water (Isaiah 41:18). You love to “split the rocks in the wilderness and (to) give them abundant drink like the ocean depths” (Psalm 78:15). You desire to “come down like rain upon the mown grass, like showers that water the earth” to see fruitfulness and life unfold (Psalm 72:6).
So, we ask that You open up the heavens and rain down buckets of Your goodness (Isaiah 45:8 MSG). Break up the rocky soil and turn over the heavily trodden so that they may bloom salvation and spout right living (Hosea 10:12). Until that day, we will seek You diligently for the spirit of grace and of supplication (Zechariah 12:10).
Revive us again, Father. Revive us again.
