How to Pray on the Breastplate of Righteousness

I stand amazed that You traded Your Righteousness for my sins (2 Corinthians 5:21).  Because of Your great Love for me, even before I knew the need for this exchange, You made it possible through Your death (Romans 5:8).  This truly was an unfair deal on Your part – my filth for Your purity.  How can this be? Yet, despite the risks and the inequity of the exchange, I thank You that now You are my Righteousness (Jeremiah 23:6).

It’s not the living who are righteous, is it? Instead, it’s those who are dead to sin and alive to God (Psalm 143:2; Gal. 2:20).  By an act of my will, (not my feelings or thoughts), I submit to Your choices for me today.  Remind me about this again tomorrow (1 Corinthians 15:31). I forget easily.

I’m wearing Your breastplate of Righteousness today (Ephesians 6:14).  It was made specifically for You and yet You are in the process of forming it over my weaknesses.  I am fully aware that even as I wear Your Righteousness, I will continue to have questions (Matthew 25:37-39).  But my weakness does not discredit Your Gift. I appreicate that, too.

I connect this breastplate onto my belt of Truth.  Being Righteousness in Your sight, I will see myself in Your Truth, not as I feel.  When I stumble today, I will claim Your forgiveness and be reminded that I am already forgiven.  I will remain Righteous, not because of my own actions, but because of Your great Mercy (Romans 9:11c, 16).  Help me to keep my eyes focused upon You, instead of my ever present weaknesses (Hebrews 12:2).

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
