Heal Our Land

Holy Father,

You created me in the Image of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Not only am I formed with a spirit, a soul, and a body, Your desire is also to see me interconnected with other God-followers (Genesis 1:26; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; 1 Corinthians 12:13). The problem is that I talk about unity in theory, but find great difficulty in practicing it. I’m sure You’ve noticed that Your children tend to be divided people over politics and religion.

In Christ’s very last prayer on earth, He asked that God’s children would know unity. He interceded that we, His siblings of the faith, be united in the same way that You and He are connected (John 17:21). That must be a powerful bond.

Today, as I join His prayer, I realize unity is the key to strength, peace, and even love (Ecclesiastes 4:12; Romans 14:19; John 17:23). I am encouraged to agree, maintain the same love, and be intent on the same purpose as others in the body of Christ (Philippians 2:2). You stress unity.

Unfortunately, I’m often guilty of empty conceit and a lack of humility (Philippians 2:3). I can’t entirely agree with believers because I am selfish rather than united (Philippians 2:4). When I pray for our country’s leaders, I tend to do so with divided and selfish motives. Unfortunately, You cannot grant these types of prayers (James 4:3)?

Your Son encouraged me to love (John 13:34), so now I come to You asking that before You heal our land, You heal the disjointedness of Your body (Hebrews 12:13). Begin a pursuit of peace and sanctification within us so that we can truly see Your will (Hebrews 12:14). Help us to build up one another (Romans 14:19). Reveal those who we need to forgive so that the peace of Christ can genuinely umpire in our hearts (Colossians 3:13; 15). As we pray and practice unity, we ask that You hear from heaven and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14). In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
