For some time now, we’ve been grappling together with how His strength works in our abject weakness

Let’s do another truth mediation, okay?

Now if you haven’t done one of these with us before, here’s how it works. I’ll give you highlights of Greek meanings behind a particular verse. You mediate on these, allowing His Truth to wash over you. Finally, you come up with your own paraphrase of what you heard Him say.

Okay, so turn to 2 Corinthians 4:6:

For God, who said, ‘Light shall shine out of darkness,’ is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

Light – noun: “phos” – anything emitting the brightness of light; from a root word meaning to shine or make manifest, especially by rays

Shall shine – verb: “lampo” – to shine. Used here in its aorist tense, meaning without regard for past, present, or future time.

Out of – preposition: “ek” – a primary preposition denoting origin; the point from where the action proceeds from. Emission out of and separation from something with which has had close connection.

Darkness – noun: “skotos” – the darkness of night

Let’s pause right there. I need to go ahead and jot down the truth that He revealed. How about you?

God spoke and the amazing fiery brilliance of sun’s light birthed out of darkness. In a place where there was absolutely nothing but inky darkness, light burned. (And darkness couldn’t overpower it – John 1:5.)

(Okay….Ready?….I just had to capture that thought….)

Has shone – same as above.

In – preposition: “en” – denoting a fixed position of place and a relation of rest.

Our hearts – noun: “kardia” – the center of all physical and spiritual life; including the soul or mind as the seat of the thoughts, passions and desires.

Light – here metaphorically: the power of understanding spiritual truth.

Darkness – metaphorically: ignorance of divine things.

Now, write down the truth that He revealed to you. I would love it if you would share it in the comment section below.

Here is what He said to me:

Kandy, I’m all about bringing Light in dark places. Whether it is at the beginning of time  – or right now in your foggy understanding of Me – I give Light. That’s what I do. Your history of dimness is no problem. Being completely void of spiritual understanding doesn’t deter Me either. I am the One with the power to brilliantly enlighten your dankest understanding.”

And my response:

So Father, enlighten the eyes of my heart (Ephesians 1:18). Come into the dark places of my understanding and reveal Your Love (Ephesians 3:18-19). Fill me with the knowledge of Your purposes, so that I can please You in everything I do (Colossians 1:9-10). Speak Light into existence within me.”
