A Glimpse of Unity

Strap on your spiritual goggles and we go deep into the first part of James 5:16.  Let’s look at each word individually and then put together our own truth meditation as He speaks to us specifically.

Confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed.

Confess” – Greek verb exomologeo – To confess from the heart, freely or publicly; written in the imperative mood which commands hearer to perform action.

sins” – Greek noun paraptoma – to lapse or deviate from truth

to one another” – Greek reciprocal plural pronoun allelon – one another, mutually

and” – Greek conjunction kai – and, also, indeed; having a connecting and sometimes also a cumulative force

pray” – Greek verb euchomai – to pray to God; written in the imperative mood which commands hearer to perform action.

for” – Greek preposition hyper –  in behalf of, for the sake of

to one another” – Greek reciprocal plural pronoun allelon – one another, mutually

so that” – Greek particle hopos – how, that; when used with verbs of praying or entreating, it denotes what one wishes to be done

you may be healed” – Greek verb iaomai –  to make whole, i.e. To free from errors and sins; written in the aorist tense which has no regard for past, present or future time; also in the subjunctive mood meaning the action may or may not occur, depending upon circumstances.

Don’t you think it’s kinda interesting how that last word about healing really has more to do with being freed from sins?

Okay, so what did the Father bring to your mind to meditate upon?

Here is how I saw it:

If we are all going to actually be Body together, then there are some mandates to remember that aren’t optional.

“First, we need to realize that all of us are going to lapse in our thinking, maybe even in our doing. It’s a given. So, since we all have times in which Truth is so very hard to see, we need to make confessing that problem a regular, unstrained occurrence within our small groups. Make note that it won’t be just one or two of us that will always have to do this, for we all fall back at times into thinking like the world. The confession needs to be recognized as something for all

“But, let’s not stop there. On top of mutually admitting our mess-ups, let’s go on to then pray for each other. This too must be a mutual event. One time, I may have to make the confession and the next week, maybe I will be ready to offer the prayer.

“The point is that we are one in this. And since we are united as one Body, we have a common goal: to see each person meditating on Truth so that the Body can also be whole. But, since we are all human, we know that thinking on Truth isn’t a “once and done” kinda thing. Striving for Truth will be ongoing. Circumstances may throw us for a loop, but that’s okay. That’s what the rest of the body is for.

Do you crave a Bodylife experience like that?

Are you currently in an intimate group that will allow you to be yourself –

admitting your weaknesses one week and praying encouragement over someone the next?

May the Lord increase that hunger within you and then fill up your heart’s desire.
