I have a tattoo.
I’ve had it for a long time,
Although you may not have noticed.
It is not hidden, though seldom seen.
It is not secret, yet rarely mentioned.
Not on my neck to be concealed.
Not on my chest to be covered.
Not on my back to be forgotten.
But on a place where I can daily remember.
Not of a site that I have visited.
Not of a triumph that I have prided.
Not of a deed that I have accomplished.
But of a person, most precious to my soul.
Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands.
I cannot act without remembering your fragile frame.
When I heal
When I touch
When I raise to life
When I write on a heart
Each time, I see you there
Upon My hand.
No one can snatch you out of My hand
For you are indelibly etched there.
Not with paint that disappears
Not with henna that dissolves.
Not with ink that dims.
But with a spike that pierced.
Whether My palms reach, extend, or spread
Grip, clinch or grasp
I see you in the nail print.
Look at Me.
See My hands and My feet?
I have you in My heart.
“(You) said, ‘The LORD has forsaken me,
And the Lord has forgotten me.’
‘Can a woman forget her nursing child
And have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.
Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My Hands
Your walls are continually before Me.’”
“And He said to them, ‘Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see’” (Luke 24:38-39).
I know that the reality of your spiritual senses has been a new concept for you. The sight, sound, taste, smell and feel of the spiritual is difficult for you to grasp.
But, do not let your heart be troubled (John 14:1). Too often your thoughts and emotions are like the agitator of a washing machine, twisting this way and then that. You move to and fro distracted by whatever attracts your sight or hearing.
Turn your attention My way (Hebrews 12:2). I am One, and only One. So when you set Your affection on Me, you’ll find rest for your emotions, not the splintering exhaustion caused by the world (Matthew 11:29; John 14:27).
I realize that life accelerates around you with blinding speed. But the urgency of the present blocks your view of My Presence. Stop for a moment and remember that I am greater than all that consumes you (Psalm 46:10; 1 John 4:4). I have gladly chosen to give you the Kingdom (Luke 12:32). Seek the spiritual first and I’ll take care of all of the details (Matthew 6:33). After all, I do know what you need (Matthew 6:32).
Have you been disappointed? Prolonged disappointment is actually of great value if you will stop resisting its work in you. You are discouraged because I didn’t give you your own way, but that pathway, My dear child, would have only taken you further away from Me. You are so precious to Me, so honored, so loved….I can’t bear to see you wasted on the mundane (Isaiah 43:4). What you perceive as disappointment is actually My pathway to satisfaction (Psalm 23). Come. I’m reaching out to pull you close (Jeremiah 31:3), but won’t force you against your will.
You’ve prayed to know Me. I stand waiting to reveal Myself to you. The comfort of My Presence transcends your faltering emotions. Quieten your thoughts. Hush your emotions. My affection is aroused for you and I’m on My way (Zechariah 2:13; Song 2:8). Wait for Me with trembling anticipation (Psalm 62:5).
Hear Me now. My love for you is like a fountain, gushing, increasing and never-ending (Romans 5:5). Come near. Let me show you the depths, even though My Love can never be fully explored (Ephesians 3:17-19). At first, you may only sense a trickle (Ezekiel 47:1-2). But as you wait – quietly wait – Love will immerse you in sweetness, bringing Life to all it touches (Ezekiel 47:3-12). Rest, My child. I’m here.
