Calzone Dough

1 cup water
1 pkg. yeast (1 Tablespoon)
3 cups bread flour
½ cup dried milk powder (like Carnation’s Instant milk)
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 egg
 

Warm water in microwave 30-45 seconds. Add yeast and let dissolve 5 minutes. Add sugar and egg. Beat well. Stir in flour and dry milk. Mix well and knead about 30 times. Lift dough out of bowl and pour in about 1 teaspoon of oil into bowl. Return dough to bowl and coat both sides with oil. Cover with cloth and let rise until doubled in bulk – about 45 minutes or so. Divide into 3 or 4 equal parts. Stretch each Calzone dough into an 8” circle. Spoon melted garlic butter onto each Calzone. Add desired toppings, piling all onto one side of Calzone. Fold over free side and press seam together using fingers. Slit top deeply three times with serrated knife (contents will be exposed). Bake at 400˚ for 12-15 minutes, until browned. Serve with warm pizza sauce for dipping.
 

Topping ideas: ham, pepperoni, cooked ground beef, bacon, green peppers, black olives, mushrooms and an assortment of grated cheeses.
 

Hint: This can become a party idea by allowing guests to make their own. You need only have the dough and sliced toppings available. Another option is to have the guests bring their own favorite toppings.
